Site Engineer

Site Engineers are the primary representatives for Bastian during the installation, commissioning, and startup portions of a project. Bastian Solutions is a global company, and our projects can occur anywhere in the in the world, But are typically domestic. Bastian has a strong, 60 year presence in the North American market, with regional sales offices located throughout the US and Canada.
Duties typically include:
Close coordination with Project Manager and/or Sales as applicable
Assistance with and final check of equipment layouts
Input into installation contractor selection. Occasionally for smaller projects the Site Supervisor may hire local personnel and perform the installation "in-house"
On-site receiving of shipments (documenting damage, inventory equipment, preparing lay-down areas, etc.)
Daily Site Reports back to project team
Manage subcontractor personnel and hold them to Bastian and customer standards; costs and installation time based on goals / budgets received from Project Manager. Maintain a safe work site
Installing, starting-up and troubleshooting equipment that is generally not manufactured by Bastian, but whose quality and operation reflects on Bastian and affects the success of the project
Assist in controls debug
Develop and maintain installation and commissioning check list
Maintain a balance between happy customers and helping Bastian complete the project quickly and profitably
Respond to customer requests in a timely manner
Check-in with the office and monitor voice mail and e-mail at least daily
Closely monitor the climate of personalities on the project. Anticipate problems and get help early
Feedback on project successes and challenges to be incorporated into Project Manager's lessons learned document
Position Qualifications:
4-year Engineering Degree
Hard working
Skilled in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and PLC troubleshooting
Strong interpersonal skills required
Must be fluent with the MS Office software suite and he use of the Internet/e-mail
Material Handling, Robotics, Manufacturing or Packaging background a plus
Previous conveying experience desired
The candidate must have a solid understanding of the application of contemporary industrial control systems
Strong demonstrated sense of customer service
The technologies used range from high-level automation (robotics, AS/RS, AGV's, high speed sortation, light directed picking, goods to man automation etc.) to conventional products (workstations, rack pick modules, fabricated carts, vertical lifts, etc.)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry appropriate customer contractor badges and safety equipment (glasses, hard hat, boots, etc.) to adhere to both the customer location and Bastian Safety policies.
Ensure a safe working site for Bastian Solutions and all subcontractors
Promote Bastian in all appropriate forums
Work as a team with the rest of the office "small business mentality"
Attend all Bastian and customer meetings on time and prepared. Phone-in to mandatory team meetings
Schedules are firmed up two weeks prior to minimize travel costs. Shop all airline tickets to minimize cost
Master product information through training and personal efforts. Take charge of your training requirements and request the training you need
Maintain highest standards of professional appearance and manner in the office and especially with customers and suppliers
Assist in the training of new Bastian employees
Maintain a consistently positive, enthusiastic attitude
Communicate with Bastian management regarding personal expectations and goals so that the company and individual can better work together to maintain, tweak, or overhaul the job description to everyone's benefit
Pursue training and certification (Advanced degrees, PLC programming, Project Management etc.)
Travel: 85% travel expected, Typical rotation is 10 days onsite 4 days offsite to mitigate travel costs, maximize time onsite and average 5 days work a week.
Occasional significant after hour time required when necessary during commissioning and installation.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
